Imagine cruising down the road in a car that is unlike any other. That is precisely what French pilot and racing car driver André Dubonnet did in 1938 when he commissioned the Hispano-Suiza H6B Dubonnet Xenia. The Spanish automobile manufacturer Hispano-Suiza built this one-of-a-kind luxury car on the chassis of the H6B and gave it a distinctive new look.

The Dubonnet Xenia has a powerful engine that delivers a top speed of approximately 110 mph (177 km/h). The car’s exterior design was heavily inspired by aviation and Art Deco styles, which were popular during the time period. The wraparound windshield, large slatted grill, and rear-hinged doors that slide out and back towards the rear of the car all contribute to its unique appearance.

The Dubonnet Xenia’s aerodynamic design is also noteworthy. The teardrop shape of the car tapers towards the rear, which helps to reduce drag. Additionally, the car’s fender skirts cover almost the entirety of the rear wheels, further reducing drag. This technique was first pioneered 10 years earlier on a land speed record attempt car.

The Dubonnet Xenia is a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of automobile designers from a bygone era. It is a true work of art that showcases the beauty and elegance of luxury cars from the late 1930s.
