An Unbelievable Math Problem

Some working stiff must have been really bored in their cubicle one day in order to come up with this...

UNBELIEVABLE MATH PROBLEM

Here is a math trick so unbelievable that it will stump you.

1. Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your head)
2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code)
3. Multiply by 80
4. Add 1
5. Multiply by 250
6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number
7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.
8. Subtract 250
9. Divide number by 2

Do you recognize the answer?

for those non math majors all this does is shift the first three digits of your phone number by four places 911-XXXX then you add the last four digits of your phone number and divide twice. Leaving you with your original phone numbers.

For simplicity:

1. Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your head yeah, you will)
2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code)
3. Multiply by 10,000
4. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number

Do you recognize the answer?

ah.. pretty cool. :)

I had to do it 3 times b/c I mis-typed in the numbers but it should leave you with your phone number.

I'm assuming the answer I should have got was my phone number. After going through the motions several times, I NEVER got my phone. Hence, no I do NOT recognize the number. NOOGE

uuh nop eme neither.... after 3times.... so ....??

shittie

I did this with 4 different phone numbers and it worked for all of them. If you can't get it to work, you're a retard.

If we use a little algebra
Let X = your first 3 digits; Let Y = your last 4
As an equation you will have
((250(80x+1)+Y+Y)-250)÷2
Simplify
(20000X+250+2Y-250)÷2
Simplify again
(20000X+2Y)÷2
Divide by 2
10000X+Y

So as stated before... it moves your first 3 digits over four places to left so you can add the last 4 digits on the right

xxxyyyy

This is actually a pretty lame little "trick" because you could essentially do an infinite number of little things like this by just picking different numbers. You could factor or manipulate the term "10000X + Y" about a million different ways to come up with appropriate steps for one of these. I love how people have so much trouble recognizing this.

For even more simplicity

1 Key in the first 7 didgets of your phone number.

Do you recognize the number?

I love the +1 and "subtract 250". Its like when they were done, they realized it wasn't convoluted enough, so they threw that in. Weak.

Doesn't work if the first and last numbers in the last four digits are zero.

Yes...it does.

UN F***IN BELIEVABLE!!!!!!!

even esier, think of the first seven digits in your phone there you go you've saved yourself a couple seconds to enjoy life

why can't you just appreciate the simple things in life instead of just sitting back and getting a small smile out of it

you are like the heckler at any major event

nobosy likes you

Try this one on for size...
1) Grab a calculator and type in your seven digit phone number

2) Add 900

3)subtract 900

4) Add 5 million

5) Subtract 3 million

6) Add 2 million

7) Subtract 4 million

Recognize the number? Don't try and figure it out. It's too unbelievably mind stumping.
